Leonard Bruce, a long-time Ector County prosecutor affectionately known as Lenny, died Monday morning after a years-long battle with colon cancer.
Bruce, 59, retired in March 2011 after 18 chemotherapy treatments over a year made the physical stresses of the position too much for him to handle.
Bruce accepted that he couldn’t do the job he loved anymore and retired to try building a kit plane that he never was able to finish.
But he was hailed by a coworker and a courtroom opponent as someone who never gave up.
District Attorney Bobby Bland said Bruce was “meticulous” in everything he did, from his job to his personal life.
