Dressed sharply in a pressed white button-down shirt, Marcus Cruz listened to the second day of testimony Tuesday in a trial for his alleged role in a March 2008 burglary that netted more than $200,000 worth of items.
Cruz is accused of being the mastermind behind the burglary of Dr. Ruben Garcia's office at the Regional Home Health building in Alice. According to investigators at the time, more than $60,000 in cash, four Rolex watches, a Cartier watch and a Patek Philippe were taken from the office.
Assistant district attorney John Lemon stood before the jury Monday during opening arguments and said he would prove over the course of the week that Cruz was part of the burglary that involved high-dollar items such as platinum, gold and diamonds. Lemon said Cruz admitted his guilt during the course of the investigation.
Lemon reminded the jury of the law of parties which states that a person who assists in a crime is just as guilty as the person who picked the lock.
