Published November 15, 2011 TEXAS CITY — A jury on Monday sentenced an admitted robber to probation in connection with a case that led police to arrest three men accused of terrorizing a family at gunpoint in a failed carjacking.
Anthony Ryan Lopez, 20, was expected to be released from jail Monday after pleading guilty last week to two counts of aggravated robbery, Prosecutor Elizabeth Cuchens said.
The guilty pleas stemmed from a March 17, 2010, incident in Texas City in which police accused three men of attempting to carjack a family after following them from Houston to Texas City.
Lopez’s punishment hearing in Judge Susan Criss’ 212th District Court in Galveston ended Monday. The jury of seven women and five men deliberated Friday and Monday about two hours combined before deciding to sentence Lopez to 10 years probation, Cuchens said.
