Jury to hear arguments for and against death penalty in Williamson murder case

GEORGETOWN — A Williamson County jury will deliberate today on whether a man convicted of capital murder and two counts of aggravated assault will receive the death penalty or life without parole. Bobby Burks Jr., 34, was convicted last week in connection with the robbery and fatal shooting of 18-year-old Raul  Vizueth Torres, whom he ambushed on a Williamson County road in April 2010.

Burks' friends and relatives said Monday that he was a good father and a hard worker. Burks has nine children, including six adopted by his mother, Mesela Brown, who said she does not want her son to receive the death penalty.

"It would affect too many lives," she said.

Burks, who did not testify during his trial, blurted out, "Y'all just kill me," to the jury during proceedings last week, Williamson County District Attorney John Bradley said.
