Local sentenced to 10 years in shooting

SEGUIN - A McQueeney man has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Samuel "Sammy" Herrera, 40, was indicted in May 2011 on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of deadly conduct by discharging a firearm.

The indictment accused Herrera of causing bodily injury to Jacob Arriaga and Jacob Soliz by shooting a firearm at them on Nov. 20, 2010.

Arriaga, 18, was airlifted on Nov. 20, 2010 to University Hospital in San Antonio for treatment of a gunshot wound to the leg after police and paramedics were dispatched to the 1100 block of North Guadalupe Street in Seguin. He was released from the hospital later the same day.
