25 year old Christian Uskanga-Torres was sentenced to 20 years in prison by a Llano jury on Wednesday, February 1, 2012. Trial began Monday after Torres pled “not guilty” before a 6 woman 6 man jury. The defendant was convicted of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child committed against a 13 year old girl.
The State of Texas was represented by Assistant District Attorney Stacy Street and Mr. Torres was represented by Nina Willis. The offense was investigated by the Llano County Sheriff’s Office, with Laurie Brock as the lead investigator.
Testimony revealed that the victim’s family welcomed Torres into their home when he and his spouse, the victim’s oldest sibling, were in financial hardship. The defense attempted to attack the credibility of the victim by emphasizing the lack of DNA evidence. But the jury, having an opportunity to evaluate her testimony first-hand, listened to the outcry of a child and sent a message of deterrence to all potential sexual predators.
