FORT WORTH - A Fort Worth man has been sentenced to 47 years in state prison for the murder of a man from Seguin.
Jurors deliberated for four days before returning a verdict on Feb. 15 finding Douglas Kirk, 45, guilty of murder in the shooting death of Pedro "Pete" Diaz who had moved from Seguin to Fort Worth only about a week before his death. The next day the jury assessed punishment of the 47-year sentence and a $1,000 fine.
Diaz, 50, and his brother-in-law, Alphonso Beza, 45, had been helping Kirk move into a house next door to the residence occupied by Beza and his wife, Isabel Diaz Beza. The jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict regarding Beza, and a mistrial was declared in that case.
Prosecutors said Diaz and Beza had gone over to the rental house on April 24, 2010 and offered to help Kirk get moved into the residence in the 2800 block of Raton Drive in Fort Worth.
