A La Porte man who has spent time in prison for numerous crimes has been sentenced to life in prison for the June 2011 sexual assault of a 15-year-old and 99 years in prison for his subsequent escape after the arrest for the assault.
Jurors in the 435th state District Court of Judge Michael Seiler sentenced Charles Allen Donelly, 48, Wednesday after convicting him of both crimes. Assistant District Attorney Cindy Pulcher showed evidence that Donelly, a parolee, met a 15-year-old child on the Internet and then persuaded the child into engaging in sexual intercourse in the Sam Houston National Forest.
After Donelly sexually assaulted the child, a Forest Service officer stopped them as they were leaving the scene. The child later told the officer that the two had been involved in sexual relations, according to a press release from the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
