San Marcos man sentenced to life for child pornography and sex abuse

Last week, a Hays County Jury found Wesley Wayne Schaefer, age 34, of San Marcos, guilty of one count of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Young Child and 127 counts of Possession of Child Pornography. Testimony at trial detailed the hundreds of images of child pornography that were found on the defendant’s computer, many of which had been downloaded from his personal cell phones. In addition to downloading child pornography, the defendant had victimized several children who were in his home at various times.

After hearing evidence from several punishment witnesses after the verdict of guilty, the jury heard closing arguments from both the defense and the prosecutors.

“This is worse than murder,” Assistant District Attorney Cathy Compton told the jury. “This man was a serial murderer of childrens’ souls.”
