HUNTSVILLE — Cody Ray Walters was found guilty of murder Wednesday for the 2009 stabbing death of John Wayne McCrary.
A jury of eight men and three women deliberated for three hours after the state and defense made their closing arguments. Walters did not show any emotion as the jury foreman handed the verdict to the bailiff and District Judge Don Kraemer read it to the court.
“Hopefully this will help bring some closure to John Wayne McCrary’s family,” Walker County District Attorney David Weeks said.
The punishment phase of the trial begins today at 9 a.m. Walters faces five to 99 years in prison for the first-degree felony conviction for stabbing to death McCrary outside Shenanigan’s Nightclub in Huntsville on Dec. 29, 2009.
