Yuchnitz testimony turns to troubled marriage

When her son was 6 years old, Tina Son Yuchnitz bought a one-way ticket to Hawaii and left her family, supporting herself as an erotic dancer and occasional “paid companion” for a year, estranged husband Mike Yuchnitz testified Thursday in the couple's divorce trial.

Upon her return to San Antonio, he said, she threatened to take their son Noah back to her native South Korea and “disappear” if her husband didn't agree to reconcile.

“It was very difficult,” Mike Yuchnitz said of that time period. Two decades would pass before police charged the well-known local entrepreneur and TV pitchman with paying a man to have his wife killed, in October 2010.

Still awaiting trial on a charge of solicitation of capital murder, Mike Yuchnitz has been fighting Tina Yuchnitz for ownership of the couple's discount optical and tattoo shops in divorce proceedings overshadowed by the criminal charge. Much of the questioning has been directed at his conversations with an employee said to be the secret police informant who got him arrested.
