ASSISTANT CITY ATTORNEY
COMMUNITY PROSECUTION
Seeking energetic, self-motivating attorney licensed in Texas with a minimum of 2 years legal experience to fill a full-time Community Prosecutor position. A community prosecutor works in a targeted neighborhood and partners with law enforcement, community members, and public and private organizations to proactively improve public safety and enhance the neighborhood’s quality of life.
Duties include: Work with an assigned code inspector to develop innovative, proactive strategies for abating Dallas City Code violations at nuisance properties;
Partner with law enforcement, city departments and neighborhood organizations to prevent Part 1 and II crime in the target area; File civil lawsuits against noncompliant property owners who fail to maintain minimum housing standards or take reasonable measures to abate crime;
Prosecute Class C misdemeanor offenses in municipal and community court;
Attend neighborhood association/crime watch meetings and educate residents about city ordinances and ongoing city projects.
Applicant must possess knowledge of criminal law and procedure. Civil litigation experience desired. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Send resume and a legal writing sample of no more than 10 pages to:
