Assistant Criminal District Attorney (Temporary Position)

JOB TITLE:  Assistant Criminal District Attorney

DEPARTMENT: Criminal District Attorney’s Office

SALARY RANGE: Temporary position based on a minimum $50,000 annual salary; commensurate with experience

CLOSING DATE:  Upon filling position

Austin County is named after Stephen F. Austin, the “Father of Texas.”  Bellville, the county seat of this picturesque rural county, lies less than an hour west of Houston.  The office currently consists of the elected district attorney, two assistant district attorneys and three paralegals. This posting is for a temporary position filling in for a third assistant district attorney currently on leave.


This position is primarily responsible for prosecuting misdemeanor and justice of the peace/traffic cases, along with juvenile cases and some felony duties. 

The position performs intake and must be able to handle misdemeanor and felony dockets, drafting motions, pretrial hearings, and sitting as lead trial counsel. 

Travel to justice of the peace courts within Austin County will be required.  Appellate and research work will be required.


Doctor of Jurisprudence.  Licensed by the Texas Supreme Court.  Member of Texas Bar.

Valid Driver’s License.

Must be a self-starter with excellent writing and research skills.  Must be able to deal effectively with the public. 

Spanish speaker preferred, but not required.

Prosecutorial experience preferred.
