Spring mom gets 15 years for son's unneeded surgeries

A Spring woman was sentenced to 15 years in state prison Wednesday in connection with two surgeries on her young son that prosecutors said were unnecessary.

Laurie Williamson, 40, had been convicted April 24 of two cases of injury to a child in connection to the implantation of a nerve-stimulation device and a gastric feeding button in her son.

She was sentenced to 15 years on each case, but the sentences will run concurrently, prosecutors said. She had faced life in prison.

Harris County prosecutor Mike Trent said Williamson manipulated doctors and her son's condition to get the surgeries, which were unnecessary.
