A defense witness testified Thursday that David Renteria, who is facing the death sentence again in the slaying of 5-year-old Alexandra Flores, has shown above average behavior in prison and has shown little or no risk to himself or others.

Frank AuBuchon, an administrator of unit classification for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, testified that Renteria didn't have a history of institutional misbehavior.

But AuBuchon also said Renteria could face dangers in a prison's general population.

"I'd be concerned about where I housed him, particularly if he didn't keep to himself," AuBuchon said. "I'm afraid he'd be at-risk of harm from other offenders if they knew what he had done, and I'd have concerns about his ability to defend himself."
