VERNON (Special) — A Wilbarger County jury sentenced John David Meier to life in prison Wednesday after finding him guilty of possession of anhydrous ammonia with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine.

The jury sent an unequivocal message to those involved in the distribution and manufacture of drugs in the area, according to 46th District Attorney Staley Heatly. “If you commit your crimes in Wilbarger County, you will pay dearly,” Heatly said.

Meier was one of four people from the Dallas-Fort Worth area charged with stealing an anhydrous ammonia tank from Bolton’s Crown Quality, a local agricultural company. Heatly said Meier and his accomplices drove here from Hasleto to steal the anhydrous tank.
