Second Jefferson County jailer guilty in inmate assault

A former Jefferson County jailer will be sentenced next month after pleading guilty Wednesday to assaulting an inmate last year.
Rodney George Cole II, 33, faces up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $4,000 when he is sentenced June 16 for the Class A misdemeanor offense of official oppression. Cole could also receive probation.
A security video of the jail's booking area captured Cole punching Joseph Christopher Roberts four times in the face and mouth on April 5, 2007. Roberts, 20, had been brought to jail for unpaid parking tickets.
