Brent Stephens gets life for beating ex-wife to death with aluminum bat

Flatly rejecting his insanity defense, a Dallas County jury Wednesday found Brent Stephens guilty of the baseball bat slaying of his ex-wife, then sentenced him to life in prison for the crime.
Throughout most of his two-day murder trial Mr. Stephens, 39, maintained the same steady, flat stare. After his conviction and sentencing, he showed no visible reaction.
"That's him and the medication and the mental illness," said Brad Lollar, one of Mr. Stephens' attorneys, who had asked the jury to find his client not guilty by reason of insanity. "There's not a lot of reaction."
Mr. Stephens' lack of response was a stark contrast to the tears, hugs and smiles of Denise Stephens' family after hearing the jury's decision.
