Waco man found guilty of killing man over reported drug debt

A Waco man who bragged that he killed Billy Ray Coch-ran because he “disrespected” him by trading with another drug dealer while owing him $20 for crack was convicted of murder Wednesday.
Jurors in 19th State District Court deliberated just less than two hours before finding 23-year-old Devyn Jeran Lakose guilty in the April 2008 shooting death of 44-year-old Cochran on Sherman Street in East Waco.
During deliberations Wednesday afternoon, the jury of nine women and three men asked Judge Ralph Strother if they could view for a second time during the three-day trial a 20-minute police car video on which Cochran identifies Lakose as his assailant before he dies in the arms of Waco police Sgt. Bobby Cavasos.
