Man gets life sentence for his wife’s murder

A jury took less than 30 minutes to sentence a Splendora man to life in prison for the beating death of his wife.

Judge Cara Wood, of the 284th state District Court, pronounced the life sentence on Jose Isreal Garcia, 29, Thursday afternoon for the first-degree murder of Sabrina Silva.

“This man had a past history of violence and he had abused his former wife; and that, in conjunction with the brutality of the beating of Sabrina Silva, was deserving of nothing but a life sentence,” Assistant Montgomery County District Attorney Patty Maginnis said. “I felt (the jury) did the right thing.

“I felt they gave the appropriate punishment.”
