Jury hands down 30-year sentence
19-year-old guilty in murder

SAN ANGELO, Texas — After a week of testimony from self-proclaimed gang members, detectives and the defendant, a Tom Green County jury sentenced Margarita Ramirez — a 19-year-old woman convicted of murdering her ex-boyfriend — to 30 years in prison.
Jurors who sat in a Tom Green County Courthouse all week took only minutes Thursday afternoon to return a guilty verdict against Ramirez in the slaying of Robert Guevara, 20.
Gonzalo Rios, Ramirez’s attorney, called two witnesses — the girl’s father and probation officer — to testify during the punishment phase that followed the verdict.
