Senior Attorney, National Center for
Prosecution of Child Abuse (NCPCA)
National District Attorneys Association
Location: Alexandria, Virginia
NCPCA is seeking a prosecutor with at least five years of experience
at the state or local level with expertise in child fatalities and abuse,
maltreatment, and child sexual exploitation. The National District Attorneys Association serves as a
central resource for prosecutors and other allied professionals. NCPCA provides
training and technical assistance, and develops practical, comprehensive
programs and resources that incorporate the latest research, technology and
topics of interest in the investigation and prosecution of child abuse,
maltreatment, and child sexual exploitation.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced prosecutor with
substantial experience investigating and prosecuting child abuse cases, and
in-depth knowledge of various topics including child sexual exploitation, child
homicides, abusive head trauma, physical abuse, sexual abuse and criminal
neglect. This position is located in Alexandria, Virginia, and a move to the DC
Metro Area is required.
Senior Attorney Responsibilities Include
- Keep
current on substantive issues concerning law, research, legislation and
best practices
- Provide
technical assistance to prosecutors and allied professionals on
substantive child abuse topics, trial and investigative tactics and
legislation
- Run
national training programs, update these, and develop new programs in
response to professionals needs
- Train
multi-disciplinary audiences nationwide on child abuse issues
- Conduct
and coordinate trial advocacy training
- Work
in partnership with a national network of prosecutors and other
professionals from allied fields
- Research
and write on relevant law, substantive child abuse topics relevant to
child abuse prosecutors and allied professionals in publications such as
newsletters, law reviews, journal and other formats
- Contribute
to the development of grant proposals
- Work
with NCPCA attorneys and interns on development of technical assistance
and training material
Senior Attorney Requirements and Qualifications
- J.D.
and Bar membership
- 5 +
years of criminal prosecution experience at the state or local level
- Demonstrated
substantive and specialized knowledge and experience in criminal
prosecution in the specified program area
- Significant
jury trial experience
- Strong
interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
- The
ability to interact with people from a wide range of professions and
disciplines
- Strong
research and writing skills
- Teaching
and training experience strongly desired with experience training law
enforcement prosecutors and
other professionals preferred
- Computer
skills including Word, PowerPoint etc.
- Proposal
writing and grant management experience is helpful
Senior Attorney Travel Requirements
Average travel time can be as much as 8-10 days
per month during the busy travel season
Senior Attorney Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and
qualifications
