Drug possession leads to 60 years in prison
Melvin Johnson, III, 35, was sentenced to 60 years in prison for possessing crack cocaine.
The Bay City resident went to trial on Jan. 19 and was convicted and
given his prison term on the following Thursday afternoon.
The
jury of seven women and five men stayed in the courtroom after their
verdict to watch as Judge Craig Estlinbaum sent Johnson to prison.
A large group of deputies escorted the shackled Johnson from the
courtroom. Johnson had refused to place his fingerprint on the judgment
and deputies were called in the event of violence, according to a news
release from District Attorney Steven Reis.
