Convicted murderer sentenced to life

Family members of murdered Lubbock woman Refugio Avalos Montez huddled outside the courtroom after Montez's killer was sentenced to life in prison.
"It won't bring her back, but we got what we wanted," one of them said.
Judge Brad Underwood sentenced Jesse Juan Herrera to life behind bars one day after he pleaded guilty to murdering Montez, his ex-girlfriend.
Criminal District Attorney Matt Powell said a brutal stabbing warranted a life sentence.
