Ann Dinsmore Forman worked for 17 years as a prosecutor in Travis County, toiling for almost all of that time in relative obscurity on some of the toughest cases those involving children seized by the state amid allegations of abuse or neglect.
Friends and colleagues say she was fueled by compassion, a fierce sense of justice and integrity in advocating for the children in those cases.
Forman, a married mother of two teenage children, died Thursday of breast cancer at Christopher House, an Austin hospice. She was 51.
"The children of Travis County have lost one of their most dedicated and ardent advocates," said Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg. "Ann Forman ... spent her entire legal career standing up for kids."
