EL PASO -- Prosecutors this morning told jurors they would present sufficient evidence to convict a 23-year-old man in the beating death of Valentin Ray Rodriguez.
The defendant, Michael Romero, is charged with engaging in organized criminal activity, murder, aggravated assault and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Rodriguez died on Jan. 6, 2008, hours after being beaten outside a Northeast El Paso house party.
Romero is one of five men accused of beating Rodriguez. Prosecutors said during their opening statements that the attack on Rodriguez followed a "silly" argument over a girl at the party.
