Man takes plea deal in father's death

Botello's murder trial was scheduled to start Monday

CORPUS CHRISTI — A Corpus Christi man took a plea deal for 20 years in prison on Thursday for killing his father last year.

Christopher Botello, 23, had been set to face trial next week on a murder charge in 105th District Court.

Botello instead pleaded guilty to the lesser offense of involuntary manslaughter, a second-degree felony, before Magistrate Judge Melissa Madrigal.

If convicted of murder, he would have faced as long as life in prison.
