Jury will return Tuesday to deliberate in capital murder trial
Officer was fatally struck during high-speed chase

CORPUS CHRISTI — A defense attorney said if his client had meant to kill a police officer he could have used his gun instead of an SUV, but prosecutors said his bragging signaled it was no accident.
Daniel Lee Lopez, 22, is being tried on capital murder in Lt. Stuart Alexander’s March 11 death. Alexander was struck while trying to stop a fleeing SUV with spike strips off North Padre Island Drive near the Agnes Street exit.
Jurors chose a forewoman Monday and then decided to return Tuesday for deliberations.
