LEAGUE CITY — Opening arguments were expected today in the murder trial of a woman accused of strangling her mother.

Erin Ashlyn Moffatt, 20, of League City, was accused of strangling Jana Shannon Moffatt, 47, and tampering with her body, which was found decomposing Sept. 15, 2008, in a Brazoria County field.

An autopsy performed by the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed Moffatt died of strangulation about 10 days before her discovery near Highway 35 and Greenhouse Road.

Police didn’t reveal a motive in the slaying.
