Appeal denied for former attorney

The 4th Court of Appeals declined Wednesday to overturn the conviction of a former San Antonio lawyer accused of aiding her husband in extortion plots against four of her extramarital lovers.

Mary Schorlemer Roberts, 53, was ordered by a jury in December 2007 to serve 10 years' probation for five felony counts of theft by deception and coercion.

In a separate trial, ex-husband and fellow lawyer Ted Roberts was sentenced to five years in prison.

He began serving his sentence in December after a series of unsuccessful appeals.

“We're pleased with the decision,” First Assistant District Attorney Cliff Herberg said. “It should come as no surprise to Mary Roberts, given that's the same decision the 4th Court made with regard to her former husband.”
