Jury to deliberate on Jessop's sentencing

SAN ANGELO, Texas — The prosecution and defense have rested in the punishment phase of the trial of Merril Leroy Jessop, who has been convicted of sexual assault of a child in connection with an alleged underage marriage.
Jessop is a member of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a polygamous sect.
Today at 9 a.m. the jurors will hear closing arguments and deliberate on Jessop’s sentence.
Thursday began with the testimony of psychological trauma expert Larry Beall. The defense questioned the witness outside of the presence of the jury to begin.
