The district attorney for Young County said Monday justice was served as 31-year-old Jeremiah Justin Craft answered “guilty” three times to crimes against 16-year-old Bridgett Herard and was sentenced to prison for those crimes.
Craft appeared in 90th District Court in Graham Monday morning. Instead of going through a jury trial in his case, he appeared before visiting Judge Phillip Vick, who sentenced him to 45 years in prison for murder, 45 years for sexual assault of a child, and 25 years for tampering with a corpse. Craft “admitted that he murdered, sexually assaulted and hid the body of an innocent child...” District Attorney Brenda Gray wrote in a press release.
Bridgett was reported missing Dec. 26, 2008; she had last been seen Dec. 23. Deputies with the Young County Sheriff’s Office searched for the teen during the days that followed the report, and a trained dog led to the discovery of her body Jan. 16, 2009. She was found at a property outside of Graham.
