Denton County judge sentences man to life for killing pregnant girlfriend

A Fort Worth man was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison for killing his 16-year-old girlfriend and the couple's unborn child after learning of the pregnancy.
A Denton County jury deliberated only 90 minutes before finding Garrett Gower, 21, guilty of capital murder for killing Brittany Munoz and the 6-week-old male fetus she was carrying. When the guilty verdict was read, Gower stared straight ahead, showing no emotion.
Denton County District Court Judge Bruce McFarling handed down the sentence before hearing statements from the victim's family.
"We opened our hearts and homes to you," Judith Munoz, Brittany's mother, told Gower as she read her victim impact statement.
