Jimmy Noel Hughes, 22, spent most of Thursday on the stand in 30th District Court, providing details about what happened the night of Aug. 21 and the morning of Aug. 22, 2008, offering what the prosecutor referred to during cross-examination as the fourth version of the events in the aggravated sexual assault of a child case.

As Hughes’ attorney Ronnie Molina began questioning the defendant Thursday morning, Hughes said he wanted the jurors to hear from him the truth about what happened.

His account differed from the description the girl — now in her late teens — gave when she testified Tuesday. She described waking early in the morning at an Archer County house to find a gash to the back of her head, not knowing how it happened, and accepting a ride back to Wichita Falls from Hughes. She testified about him pulling onto Clyde Morgan Road on the way and punching her and sexually assaulting her. She had a broken nose, chipped teeth and bruising, and DNA found on the girl matched the defendant, according to testimony.
