Brownsville man gets 25 years in sex abuse case

A state district judge sentenced a Brownsville man to 25 years in prison for continuous sexual abuse of a minor. Juan Manuel Rivera appeared in the 107th State District Court on Thursday where he entered a no contest plea in the case.
The 31-year-old Brownsville man is accused of sexually abusing a 10-year-old child between December 2007 and August 2009.
Brownsville police arrested him on August 2009.
Rivera pleaded no contest to a first-degree felony continuous sexual assault of a child charge on Thursday.
Under the deal, Rivera was sentenced to 25 years in prison and must register as a sex offender upon release.
Charles "Chuck" Mattingly with the Cameron County District Attorney's Office said child predators must be punished swiftly and harshly.
