Child Predator sentenced to 50 years for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child

August 31, 2010, from a press release issued by the County and District Attorney's Office in Cameron County

Brownsville, Texas – August 30, 2010 – Armando R. Villalobos, County and District Attorney for Cameron County announces today that Rolando Saucedo, 24, of Brownsville, Texas, was sentenced to 50 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Institutional Division.

Assistant District Attorneys Korina Barraza and Gabriela Martinez secured the conviction and presented evidence, exhibits, and arguments in the 138th Judicial District Court.

The defendant Saucedo entered a plea of guilty and was found guilty by the court on four counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, two counts of indecency with a child, and burglary with intent to commit to assault.

According to the Brownsville Police Department, on August 11, 2009, the defendant Saucedo sexually assaulted a 10-year-old victim. The victim’s brother and sister apprehended him when they noticed him underneath the sheets of the bed in the victim’s bedroom.

Saucedo had befriended and gained the confidence of the victim two months before at Sunrise Mall. The defendant had been grooming and communicating with the victim by cell phone up until the day of the rape.

“This is a classic example of how child predators gain the trust of their victims by grooming them into a false sense of security and then preying upon their innocence,” Chief First Assistant District Attorney Charles E. Mattingly said. “Parents, please take the time to talk with your children about who their friends are, who they hang out with, what social networking sites they belong to and who they are talking to by text or email.”

“If you don’t take an interest in your child’s daily activities then someone like this defendant will,” Mattingly said. “Please protect your children.”

Saucedo is serving another 50-year sentence for charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child which occurred in April of 2005. He sexually assaulted a 13-year-old victim in Brownsville.
