BEAUMONT - A man on trial for intoxication manslaughter said on Monday that his daughter was to blame for the fatal 2006 single-vehicle wreck.

Jeffrey Matherly's attorney, Zach Hawthorn, told jurors the truck's driver was not Matherly, who was found crumpled over the steering wheel, but his daughter.

The July 2, 2006, wreck on Interstate 10 near Beaumont's 11th Street, in which none of the three people in the vehicle wore seat belts, killed Matherly's daughter's boyfriend, 24-year-old Brockman Glen Latta.

Matherly, 49, faces up to two years in prison if convicted of the second-degree felony.
