Paul Devoe has done a lot of talking since an August killing rampage that left five people dead in Central Texas and one in Pennsylvania, said Gary Cobb, a Travis County assistant district attorney.

Cobb said Devoe, who is facing the death penalty in Travis County, talked about the charges against him to police; his mother and sister in Suffolk County, N.Y., where he was arrested; a cellmate at the Travis County Jail; and an Austin television news reporter.

"He talked to everybody who would listen," Cobb said.

Whether Devoe's various statements can be used as evidence will be the subject of a pretrial hearing that begins today in state District Judge Brenda Kennedy's court in Travis County, where Devoe has been indicted on capital murder charges in the Aug. 24 killing of his ex-girlfriend's daughter Haylie Faulkner, 15, and Haylie's friend Danielle Hensley, 17, in Jonestown.
