Only days after his trial began, Richard Allen Howe pleaded guilty last week to capital murder for the September 1989 death of a mother of three and assistant vice president at Texas Commerce Bank, according to the Fort Bend County District Attorney's Office.

Howe, 53, of Brookshire, changed his plea during his trial in state District Judge Jim Shoemake's courtroom in Richmond, resulting in his conviction and life sentence for the killing.

The victim, Mina Anne Bomar, was to meet her mother for dinner the evening of Sept. 14, 1989, but never arrived, investigators said. Her nude body was found two days later in an abandoned building near Dairy Ashford in Sugar Land, Assistant District Attorney Mark Hanna said. She had been strangled and beaten in the head and face.
