Assistant District Attorney

The Cameron County District Attorney’s Office is in search of an entry level Assistant District Attorney. This person would be responsible for, including, but not limited to, serving as a second chair prosecutor in a county court at law, providing support to felony courts when assigned (third chair assignments on major felonies), managing a justice court docket, and attending collateral magistrate duties.

Located on the border, and by the sea, Cameron County is the 13th biggest county in Texas. Cameron County is home to South Padre Island, Texas and Boca Chica Beach– beaches with warm weather 10 months out of the year.

The office itself is comprised of approximately 104 employees (approximately 40 attorneys), and is responsible for prosecuting all misdemeanor and felony state crimes in Cameron County, Texas. Our prosecutors have an experience range between 0 to 30+ years. There are 9 District Courts, 5 County Courts at Law, and 10 Justice Courts in Cameron County, Texas.  

All attorneys (including the District Attorney) keep an open door policy and value the opportunity to mentor and teach younger prosecutors. In addition, all new prosecutors are assigned a senior staff mentor. Salary range is between $60,000 and $64,000.  Benefits included a pension plan (contribution matched 2 to 1 by the county), 2 weeks annual personal leave, 2 weeks annual sick leave, health insurance, and premium time for working over 40 hours a week.
