JOB OPENING – Assistant District Attorney, Child Protective Services Division

Summary:      Gregg County Criminal District Attorney, Mr. Tom B. Watson, is currently accepting resumes for a prosecutor in our CPS Division.

Mr. Watson is seeking a strong and experienced attorney with a passion for the protection of our children. The Gregg County District Attorney’s Office takes a strong stance against child abuse and neglect. Part to building a stronger community is not just holding people accountable for their actions, but also uplifting these children insuring they will have a life free of abuse or neglect moving forward.  To achieve this goal it requires a strong working relationship with many agencies throughout the community. Protection of the most vulnerable cannot be done by one. It takes a team. We are seeking someone who is willing to stand up and fight for our children with us.

Qualifications:   The applicant must have a Juris Doctorate Degree or equivalent degree from an accredited law school with a license to practice law in Texas and be in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.  The applicant should have a working knowledge of the Texas Family code, Texas Rules of Civil Procedure, Texas Rules of Evidence, Texas Penal Code and the Texas Rules of Criminal Procedure; strong courtroom advocacy skills; ability to handle discovery, subpoenas, communicate effectively, advise CPS caseworkers on complex legal matters, and the ability to successfully try cases before a judge or jury.  Prior prosecutorial experience in criminal or CPS courts preferred.

Must pass a criminal background check and the required drug screening.

Salary:    Commensurate with experience, but extremely competitive for counties of similar size.
