Salary and Benefits:

Starting salary $69,072 to $91,000 depending on experience

Qualifications:  Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas. Candidates with a Juris Doctorate awaiting bar results may be considered.  Experience in county government, open records requests preferred but not required.

This prosecutor will handle all aspects of prosecution including case intake, plea negotiations, trial preparation and jury/bench trials, probation revocation hearings, and appeals.  This position is a unique one.  It will be temporarily in the District Attorney’s office doing felony prosecution with the opportunity to transition to the County Attorney’s Office as the Assistant County Attorney January 1, 2025.  The primary duties of the assistant county attorney are handling misdemeanor cases in the  County Court , County Court at Law, and JP courts, protective orders, and all juvenile cases.  The County attorney’s office will also handle open records requests, open meetings act questions, and various other County government needs.  Salary will remain the same with the transition.

Houston County is a small community in East Texas.  The county seat is the city of Crockett, Texas.
