The Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office is seeking a chief prosecutor to lead its Appellate Division, effective immediately. Applicants should be Texas licensed attorneys in good standing with at least 5 years of job-related experience, and should possess a thorough working knowledge of criminal prosecution and court procedure. The ideal candidate for this position has extensive felony trial and appellate experience. Previous supervisory experience is desirable.
The Appellate Division handles all appeals and writs for an office of over 80 prosecutors. The chief supervises two attorneys and one administrative assistant. The division provides real-time advice to the trial divisions during trial and assists with jury charges as appropriate. The chief prosecutor is responsible for the supervision and training of the division to ensure a high level of preparedness in evaluating cases, establishing procedures and guidelines for the division, and providing guidance to law enforcement agencies during criminal investigations. The chief prosecutor provides training to our office and the law enforcement partners and is a resource for the community. The chief prosecutor is also responsible for maintaining and analyzing division statistics. Strong case evaluation, writing, and communication skills will be required as well as proficiency to provide education to grand jurors, law enforcement, and community members.
Fort Bend County is one of the most diverse counties in the nation and is only thirty minutes from downtown Houston. The annual salary for this position starts at $127, 316.80. Bar dues and CLE are paid for by the office. Relevant Texas Board of Legal Specialization certifications allow for additional compensation of $5,000 annually.
