Webb County District Attorney’s Office has a Special Victims Unit Counselor Position opening beginning November 1, 2019.

JOB TITLE:  Special Victims Unit Counselor

JOB SUMMARY: This position provides crisis intervention counseling to victims of the Special Victims Unit.


Works with the Special Victims Unit to provide services to children and families who are in high risk situations.

Provides crisis intervention counseling to victims of sexual assault offenses.

Conducts assessments for referrals/placements to appropriate community agencies for social services.

Assists in the formulation of safety plans for victims and their families.

Conducts field visits to monitor victim’s safety and well-being.

Accompanies victims to court for court hearings and trials as needed.

Testifies in court as required.

Educates victims, the community and law enforcement personnel concerning sexual assault offenses and related legal resources.

Responds to after-hours emergencies as needed.

Performs related duties.


Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.

Knowledge of crisis counseling principles and practices.

Knowledge of victim’s rights, regulations and laws.

Knowledge of community resources available to victims of sexual assault offenses.

Knowledge of court terminology, policies and procedures.

Knowledge of computers and job related software programs.

Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.

Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

Fluent and literate in Spanish; preferable. 

Must pass criminal background check and take/pass drug screen.  Must have valid Texas driver’s license.


Grade 18 – Starting Salary Range $ 42,389 – $46,240/annually, salary will be commensurate with experience.
