Investigator for District Attorney’s Office
San Angelo, Texas
Under general supervision, performs investigations in civil and criminal cases brought before the District Attorney’s office; and perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Conducts case investigations which include locating and interviewing victims, witnesses, defendants, law enforcement representatives, land owners, agents, and other persons as needed.
Conducts surveillance and undercover work; takes pictures and videos, as appropriate; collects statements from appropriate parties.
Collects, analyzes, and prepares evidence in accordance with departmental procedures; accesses criminal history records, public and business records, and other pertinent information.
Contacts laboratory analysts, medical examiners, physicians, judicial representatives, and law enforcement officials in the investigation of assigned cases.
Prepares and executes search and arrest warrants, entry of premises, and personal service in accordance with directives and department procedures; prepares and serves subpoenas.
Completes comprehensive reports for each assigned investigation, ensuring that pertinent facts and findings are properly documented.
Prepares witnesses for testimony in court trials.
Testifies at Grand Jury, courtroom trials, or Tom Green County Commissioners’ Court hearings, as appropriate to the assignment.
Works closely with county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and others to share and transfer information and to assist in clearing cases.
Attends meetings and training sessions; performs other duties, as assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of investigation and interrogation/interviewing techniques and practices; knowledge of crime scene search techniques and proper evidence handling; knowledge of applicable codes and statutes; knowledge of the use and care of vehicles, firearms, computers, and other specialized equipment used in investigations work.
Ability to conduct thorough investigations, properly maintain records, and prepare comprehensive reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with attorneys, judicial officials, County employees, and others contacted in the course of work; ability to complete mandated TCLEOSE training and firearms qualification requirements; ability to administer basic first aid.
Skill in the operation of a vehicle, investigative equipment and cameras, and computers; skill in oral/written communication and interpersonal relations.
Physical Requirements and Work Setting:
Works in a variety of settings, both in and outdoors; subject to extreme weather temperatures and inclement weather conditions; regular periods of sitting, walking, standing, bending, and reaching; occasional lifting up to 45 lbs; visual acuity, hearing ability, and manual dexterity required.
Education and/or Experience Required:
Graduation from an accredited police academy and at least two years of experience in law enforcement or investigations work.
Certificates and Licenses:
License as a Peace Officer from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education (TCLEOSE). Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License.

Minimum Salary: $1,687.69 Biweekly
