The Cameron County District Attorney’s Office is in search of an entry level prosecutor. The primary role of an entry level prosecutor is to serve as the second chair prosecutor in one of Cameron’s County Courts at Law. The prosecutor will be expected to prosecute all cases filed in the assigned court. Collateral Duties include serving as a liaison to a local law enforcement agency, representing the State of Texas in mental health civil commitments, prosecuting class C offenses in a justice court, attending morning jail magistrations as assigned, and assisting in the prosecution of felony offenses as assigned by the District Attorney/First Assistant. The CCDAO is a fast paced environment wherein a young attorney is able to gain a large amount of experience very quickly. In total the CCDAO employs a staff of over 100 (approximately 40 attorneys), is responsible for prosecuting all misdemeanor and felony crimes in Cameron County, Texas, and on average prosecutes over 10,000 cases a year. Our prosecutors have an experience range between 0 and 30+ years of experience. There are 8 District Courts, 5 County Courts at Law, and 10 Justice Courts in Cameron County, Texas. All attorneys (including the District Attorney) have an open door policy and value the opportunity to mentor and teach younger prosecutors.
