About Our Office
Walker County has a population of about 75,000. Our office is responsible for prosecuting all felony, misdemeanor, juvenile, and justice of the peace cases. We also handle protective orders, mental commitments, seizures, and advise Commissioners Court and other county officials. Our office consists of twenty-five employees, including 10 prosecutors, 3 investigators, and 2 victim assistance coordinators. The size of our office allows prosecutors to be exposed to a full range of important legal matters quickly, thereby fostering rapid growth and development. There are two district courts, one county court-at-law, and four JP courts in Walker County.
The Walker County Criminal District Attorney’s Office is located in the beautiful piney woods and rolling hills of Huntsville, Texas, close to Lake Conroe, Lake Livingston, Huntsville State Park, and the Sam Houston National Forest hike and bike trails. Huntsville is a thriving community with affordable housing and low costs of living on the rapidly developing Interstate 45 corridor between Houston and Dallas. Huntsville is also home to Sam Houston State University with over 21,000 students and one of the premiere Criminal Justice programs in the United States.
Felony Attorney III Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities will include case evaluation and preparation, preparation of legal documents, interpreting laws and regulations, rendering legal advice and counsel, reviewing warrants, and representing the State in felony prosecutions in the District Courts.
The prosecutor will be expected to contact victims, work with law enforcement, negotiate pleas with defense attorneys, try cases to a verdict, and prepare appellate trial briefs.
Qualifications & Benefits
Must be licensed and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas. Experience as a prosecutor preferred, but not required.
