First Assistant County Attorney

The Gonzales County Attorney’s Office has an opening for a felony prosecutor to serve as a First Assistant County Attorney.  The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in criminal law including experience as a trial prosecutor.  The First Assistant will be responsible for the prosecution of higher degree felony offenses and will be responsible for trial preparation and presentation of cases.  Additionally, the First Assistant will be responsible for newly assigned cases from intake through appeal, contested hearings on motions, and reviewing and evaluating files currently pending in the office.  Other duties could be assigned.  The successful candidate would be expected to work closely with law enforcement, contact victims, negotiate pleas, try appropriate cases to jury verdicts, and write appeals when necessary. 

Salary range for this position is $80,000 to $90,000. Final pay will be based on qualifications and experience. Applicants must be licensed and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.  The position includes paid health insurance, retirement benefits through TDCRS, paid Bar Dues, and CLE.
