POSITION:                   First Assistant District Attorney, Wichita County, Texas

LOCATION:                  Criminal District Attorney’s Office, Wichita County Courthouse

SUPERVISORS:            Criminal District Attorney

HOURS:                       8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (Additional hours may be required.)

SALARY:          Up to $130,000, based upon experience and qualifications       (Plus County Benefits)

  GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The First Assistant District Attorney’s key role is assisting the District Attorney with the overall management of the entire District Attorney’s Office and prosecuting cases with the District Attorney.  Also oversees the law enforcement officers employed by the District Attorney, including the Drug Enforcement Division.

  ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Assists the district attorney with the prosecution of major cases

Supervises the division chiefs and chief investigator

Oversees all prosecution of cases in the office, including staffing of cases to ensure the policies of the office are enforced

Acts as liaison with other law enforcement agencies and county offices

Responds to major crime scenes

Assists in preparing and managing the District Attorney’s budget

Carries a felony caseload

Oversees disciplinary investigations within the office and any employment actions resulting from those investigations

Works closely with the District Attorney to perform other functions as directed

  ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be able to manage a diverse group of professionals, including attorneys and support staff

Must possess excellent communication skills

Must be of extremely high integrity and professional demeanor

Must have the ability to analyze facts and case precedents, apply them to the prosecution of cases in the office, and present them effectively in court

Must be able to conduct self in a professional manner and develop and maintain good working relationships with visitors, clients, co-workers, attorneys, judges and county officials.

Must take initiative in performing duties of the office

  MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Must have significant experience in felony criminal law practice

Must have significant experience in managing attorneys and support staff

Experience working with a governmental entity budget is a plus

Must have knowledge of computer programs, including Microsoft and cloud-based case management

Must be able to work overtime or extended hours when necessary

Must pass a pre-employment physical exam and drug test paid by Wichita County

Must be able to pass a thorough background investigation conducted by Wichita County

Must be able to pass a psychological evaluation

Must be a graduate of an A.B.A. accredited law school

Must have a license to practice law in the State of Texas and be in good standing with the State and local bar associations
