The Upshur County Criminal District Attorney’s Office is seeking a highly experienced prosecutor to handle all aspects of the felony and juvenile departments from intake to final disposition. Applicant should possess a strong work ethic, be an effective communicator and have a desire to try cases in court. Individuals who are highly organized, positive and motivated are encouraged to apply. Applicant must possess an overall ability to manage all areas of felony and juvenile prosecution for this extremely busy five-attorney office. Applicant must be independent enough to manage a District Court and Juvenile Court docket and try cases to jury and/or bench trials and also be equipped to work as a team player. Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications. A minimum of five (5) years first-chair felony prosecution experience is required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES ARE:
>Reviews and processes intake for criminal cases, including Juvenile offenses, filed by law enforcement and initiates prosecution when appropriate.
>Prepares Briefs for the Court of Appeals as necessary and in a timely fashion.
>Attends docket calls, conducts plea bargain negotiations, is well prepared on assigned cases, makes decisions promptly and keeps abreast of the law.
>Is of extreme high integrity, with ability to maintain a professional demeanor and demonstrate proper respect to the court at all times.
>Supervises secretaries for accurate completion of pleadings, timely issuance of applications for subpoenas and pre-trial motions, orders and jury charges.
>Assists law enforcement with warrants and is available for consultations with court personnel, victims, witnesses, defense attorneys and other criminal justice personnel.
>Is responsible for all cases in his/her charge including the security of the file as well as proper disposition of the file upon completion.
>Prepares cases for trials by interviewing witnesses and law enforcement officers as well as preparing a trial notebook.
>Complies with and enforces the rules, regulations and policies of the Criminal District Attorney’s Office, the oral and written directives of his/her supervisor and the Texas Code of Professional Responsibility as well as any other duties as assigned.
>Must have a clean criminal background and pass a pre-employment drug test.
>Must be licenced by the state of Texas and in good standing with the Texas State Bar.
