Job Title:  DA Legal Assistant II                    (Discovery)     FLSA:  NON-EXEMPTPay Grade:  B-22  Effective Date: 10/2018

We are looking for an individual for the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office with professional, ethical, experienced administrative support staff.  We want to attract the finest talent from around the State to work in the greatest County in Texas.  We are located in Central Texas and our major cities include Georgetown, Round Rock and Austin.

Provides professional support to the District Attorney by performing tasks related to “discovery”.


  • Communicate and correspond in a pleasant and professional manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Windows and Word, Excel, Power Point software.
  • Proficient with standard office equipment including telephone, scanner, fax, and copier.
  • Receive and handle phone calls or communicate messages as required or requested.
  • Receive, review, distribute, and handle correspondence as required or requested.
  • Prioritize work to meet required deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Dependable, responsible, and follows direction.
  • Work independently with initiative requiring little direct supervision.
  • Organizes, documents, and notates electronic and paper case files.
  • Maintains confidentiality and security of records and information.
  • Operates computers, scanners, word processing documents, printers and navigates within Odyssey system to document all actions taken and paperwork released.
  • Assists law enforcement agencies with receipt of evidence.
  • Responds to internal and external status requests.
  • Manages physical media files and archives evidence files upon final disposition.
  • Receives documents from investigators or records secretary after initial discovery requests have been fulfilled.
  • Releases copies of evidence in criminal cases (discovery) in a timely manner to defense attorneys upon official request.
  • Works in conjunction with the County Attorney’s Office in prosecution of cases being referred between offices.
  • Interact with defense attorneys regarding the viewing of material which must be made available, but which cannot be copied pursuant to state law and document same.
  • Copies, redacts, and converts video and audio files as requested in compliance of State Law and court orders.
  • Prepares digital copies and logs-in discovery requests and receipts.
  • Records proof of discovery transactions in the digital file of each case.
  • Readily complies with departmental and county-wide policies and procedures.


  • High school diploma and two (2) years of experience in criminal justice, public administration or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training.


  • Experience with scanning, imaging, indexing and familiarity with digital, video and audio conversion software and procedures.


  • Work outside of the normal office hours (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) may be required to fulfill courtroom duties, or to meet deadlines and accuracy requirements.
  • Non-essential personnel for emergency situations, unless otherwise designated by the Elected Official.


  • Long periods of sitting at a desk or other workstation.
  • Standing, stooping, walking, bending, and crouching.
  • Occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.


  • Work is primarily indoors, with HVAC system.
  • Daily contact with Defense Attorneys.


  • Reports directly to the Office Administrator and Chief Investigator.
  • Direct Reports – none.
